2. Improve Public Safety

Improve Public Safety …for citizens in neighborhoods, businesses, and public spaces by increasing public safety wages to a starting wage of $34,000; reinstituting the Assistant Chief position; reinstituting the $5,000 in-city homeownership down-payment assistance program; increasing officer training; increasing community policing; initiating a Citizen’s Police Assistance Board; increasing the psychological review step in the recruiting and hiring process;  strengthening CRIMESTOPPER’s award amounts; completing plans to modernize Public Safety Building; increasing the usage of public safety technology; deploying more aggressive officer recruiting to achieve desired staffing quality and levels; improving interface between citizens, public safety, magistrate, and municipal court system

3. Fix Quality of Life in ALL Neighborhoods

…by fixing Garbage and Trash Collection; promoting an increase in homeownership; reinstituting the $5,000 in-city homeownership down-payment assistance program for city employees; strengthening neighborhood associations and watch programs in all established neighborhoods; promote good health in people and property; clean and maintain city-wide rain water drainage system; and increase neighborhood recreation programs for youth 

4. Improve Government Operations and Fix Government/Citizens Disconnect …

by answering the phone, fixing transparency issues, and using IoT (Internet of Things) technology tools; fixing mayor/council relations; restoring financial practices with the specific goal to raising the city’s bond rating back to A+; fixing Human Resources Department; restoring Recreation Department; restoring policies and procedures in all departments; increase city employees pay to a livable wage; strengthen boards and authorities; re-evaluate the garbage and trash collection system; bring city into state and federal environmental compliance 

5. Phase in SmartCity Solutions …

by identifying and implementing a simple ‘of the shelf’ Mobile App that will be used to ‘quick start’ a city-wide clean up by empowering citizens to report potholes, uncut grass, uncollected garbage and trash, broken sewage and water lines, etc.; developing design specifications for the Selma Mobile App; researching and engaging the best Mobile App development or acquisition strategy; developing and maintaining smart uses of the City’s smart-people, IoT (Internet of Things); and perpetual visioning and planning to initiate Selma’s journey into the world of SmartCities; and advocating for and supporting the Selma City School System reengaging the media center located at R. B. Hudson for the purpose of developing programs to be aired on the PEG channel (Channel 181) 

6. Support Education …

by advocating excellence: Pre-K through Post-Secondary, including workforce training and development by using PEG Channel (Charter 181) to highlight education system high achievers at all levels; teaming with superintendent to advocate and apply for available supplemental funding for non-funded cultural and enrichment programs that provide unique exposure to school aged children in our societal ‘new normal’; exploring the feasibility of a comprehensive capital improvement program to modernizes all public school facilities that are above 50 years; ensuring school system is getting the best possible fee structure for use of city owned buildings; developing and implementing a seamlessly integrated brand for the City of Selma that includes education, commerce, and government 

7. Cultivate UNITY …

through FAITH and WORK by quarterly briefings with clergy community seeking ways to reset the moral compass within the community towards the golden rule, celebrate successes, focusing attention on opportunities to promote and restore hope within the family and community with messaging and opportunities
